Jetboil Flash Camping and Backpacking Stove Cooking System
Eating is important, right? Going out on a limb here, but I'm going to bet you agree.
Only thing is, how do you do it away from home - in the woods, or in a park, or on the side of the road should an emergency demand it?
You could drag your BBQ along, but that seems a little impractical.
Building a fire could be an option, if you have access to fuel and a little camp stove like the Emberlit Fireant.
But there is a better way. And that way is the Jetboil cooking systems, and our favorite, the Flash.
The Jetboil Systems
Jetboil has a few different cooking systems available, and I thought this graphic does a better job than i could explain in words, so without further ado:
Pick one that works for you and go crazy.
We settled on the Jetboil Flash. It was the right mix between size / performance / price for us.
So lets vibe out on the Jetboil Flash for a minute, eh?
The Jetboil Flash is the Bestest
The Jetboil Systems are easy to setup and use, it works great, and is just right for 1-2 peoples needs in austere environments.
It's also small enough to carry in a backpack or keep in your vehicle.
You aren't cooking a lasagna with this thing, but you can get 16-oz boiling water in about 100 seconds, and with boiling water you can get a lot done: re-hydrate food, make soups, oatmeal, tea and coffee. Everything you would need it to do for an off-road trip or during a grid down event.
It consists of 7 parts:
- 1 liter Flux Ring Cooking Cup (titanium I think?)
- Drink-thru Lid with strainer
- Bottom cover, which doubles as a measuring cup and bowl
- Insulated cozy with Thermochromatic heat indicator, which tells you when your water is hot
- Aluminium baseplate / burner assembly with a push-button igniter and output adjustment control
- Tripod Stand, which attaches to the Fuel Tank
Required but not included, must be purchased separately:
- Isobutane / Propane Fuel Tank - 10 liters of boiling water per each 100g tank
Here's a quickie vid to show you the details:
All of the main parts tuck away into the cup for storage, and you can also squeeze a pot support stabilizer in there as well. More on that part a little later.
