Bag Organization
The key to prepping an effective emergency Bug Out Bag or any other survival kit is being able to quickly find and take stock of the items within it.
Resist the urge to dump everything in there willy-nilly. You should be able to find each item quickly and efficiently (even in the dark) without spilling the whole thing open or rummaging endlessly.
Items should be grouped together by function into kits: a fire making kit, a sleep kit, cooking kit, etc.
Hurricanes
Hurricanes can be some of the most destructive forces on earth. Intense winds along with flooding can cause multiple damage vectors. Getting prepared ahead of time is critical since Hurricane warnings will only come a few days in advance.
There are a few key issues to plan for:
- Home Fortification: Wind & Water Mitigation
- Long Term Power Outage: Food Storage / Lighting / Hygiene
- Preparing for Evacuation
If you live on the east coast of the US, or in Hawaii, prepping for hurricanes and cyclones is an annual activity!
Prevent and Treat Blisters
You've had blisters before. They really suck. You don't want them, and avoiding them should be top priority during an emergency.
They can also be extremely dangerous if left untreated, especially in life or death situations.
